What Is a Duvet?
A duvet system consists of two parts: a duvet cover and the insert that goes inside of it. The insert can be a duvet or a comforter — these terms are often used interchangeably to mean a quilted blanket filled with a down or down alternative. A comforter is usually distinguished as a piece that's by itself without a cover. That said, SHEEX’s duvet system specifically consists of a comforter with a duvet cover.
How Do You Wash Your Comforter or Duvet?
Cleaning Your Duvet in a Washer
Cleaning a duvet or comforter that's queen-sized or bigger should be done with a large capacity washer and dryer — always check the label on your duvet before you wash it. Here’s how to clean one step by step.

Before you wash your duvet, look for any tears or stains. Patch up tears since you might risk pulling your fill out in the wash if you have a hole. Additionally, you should treat any stains on your duvet — we'll talk more on how in the following section.

Remove your duvet cover and put the duvet into your washer.

Add half the amount of detergent as you would for a regular load, being careful not to pour the detergent on your duvet itself.

Set the machine to a gentle, warm cycle and add in an extra rinse and spin cycle if it's available.

After your duvet has been cleaned, put it in the dryer and tumble dry on low — you can add a few dryer balls to help keep your duvet fluffy.
Spot Cleaning Your Duvet
If you keep your duvet inside a duvet cover, you won't need to spot clean it often. However, if you come across a small stain, or use a comforter by itself, a spot cleaning may be necessary from time to time. All you need is a spray bottle filled with water, a stain remover, and a toothbrush. Start by wetting the stain, spritzing it with a stain remover, and letting it sit for half an hour. After time's up, gently scrub the stain with a toothbrush. You can let it air dry or dry it with a blow dryer.
Cleaning Your Duvet Cover
Instead of cleaning an entire comforter, you can clean your duvet cover by itself. Cleaning your bedding this way is the easiest route, as you can use your home washer. Choose a regular cycle with cold water, making sure not to use any bleach or fabric softener. After washing, tumble dry your duvet cover on low, keeping the duvet cover zipped up. How Often Should You Wash Your Comforter or Duvet?
If you use your duvet or comforter with a duvet cover, you only need to wash it once or twice a year. As for the duvet cover itself, wash it every week or two since it'll be in contact with your skin — you can wait a little longer if you use a top sheet.
