The sun is shining and the flowers are starting to bloom. It's the perfect time of year to clean your space and refresh your bedding. We've gathered our favorite tips and tricks for the bedroom to help kickstart your Spring Cleaning!

1. Deep Clean Your Mattress

When it comes to your weekly cleaning, your mattress is more than likely forgotten. And that’s okay because we found a quick and easy way to tidy up.

1. Strip the sheets. (We’ll come back to them.)

2. Use a vacuum attachment to vacuum the top of the mattress. In this step, you’ll grab any dust, pet fur, or crumbs, even though we never, ever eat in bed.

3. Sprinkle the mattress with baking powder and let it sit for at least 15 minutes. Baking powder will work as a deodorizer and remove any unwanted smells from the mattress.

4. Final Step: Vacuum the mattress again with your attachment for a final clean! Make sure not to press too hard with the attachment or it will actually lose its suction.

If your mattress has any stains, we recommend this article for some stain remover recipes.

2. Wash Your Bedding

If you’ve been washing your sheets weekly, or every other week, as recommended, YAY - you’re halfway through this step. If you haven’t, go throw those sheets in the washer right now! Remember- if they’re SHEEX, use cold water and choose a regular cycle with no bleach or fabric softener and no fabric dryer sheets. Tumble dry on low, and don't worry about having to iron - SHEEX® are wrinkle-resistant and many of our collections are even wrinkle-free!

Now, let’s talk about the rest of your bedding. Did you know SHEEX pillows are machine washable? First, remove the quilted cover, you can spot clean this if this needs to be cleaned. We recommend you toss them in a large capacity washer and wash them with cold water on a gentle cycle. If your pillows are falling a bit flat lately, throw a tennis ball into the dryer to fluff them up! Read more about washing pillows here and remember to read your pillow’s specific washing instructions.

Don’t forget your top layers! If you’re using a duvet, you only need to wash your comforter once or twice a year and spring cleaning is the perfect excuse. Comforters, Quilts, and Coverlets are also machine washable. Again, we recommend using large capacity washers and dryers.

3. Dust and Declutter

You might not notice the small amounts of dust in the corner of the room but wiping down the baseboards, windowsills and other hard-to-reach places will make a huge difference. Choose a place to start, we suggest working from top to bottom in case anything falls to the ground.

1. Wipe down the windows, windowsills, and don’t forget fan blades and lampshades!

2. Remove any cobwebs that you have been staring at for weeks with a duster or paper towel.

3. Use a duster or wipe to clean the baseboards to shiny perfection.

4. If there are any devices in the room, like your TV, make sure you take a second to dust those, as well.

While you were dusting around the room, you might have noticed a few of your things out of place. Tidy up and put everything back in its home and your room will feel as fresh as the breeze outside!

Bonus Cleaning Hacks from SHEEX:

We asked the SHEEX Team for any hacks they use to keep their bedroom clean, here’s just a few of our favorites:

Store your sheets in their pillowcase. Fold your fitted, flat and pillowcase and place them inside the other pillowcase. Not only will you be able to store them easier, but you’ll be able to easily identify your Midnight Label Porcelain Set or your Arctic Aire•MAX Denim set!

Keep a giant roller brush nearby. Many of us at SHEEX let our fur babies sleep in bed with us so washing our sheets every other week might not be enough. Use a roller brush – think giant lint brush – to grab the excess hair during the week.

Quick Closet Hacks.  Using shower hooks (not the curtain rings) to hang your jeans from their belt loops. Instead of folding your jeans over a hanger, use the hooks directly on the closet bar so your jeans hang straight!

If you’re looking to get rid of some clothes – flip your hangers in the opposite direction of how you normally place them in the closet. Every time you wear an article of clothing, flip the hanger so you can see what you’ve actually been wearing.
