If you're wondering about the differences between a duvet cover and comforter, you're not alone. While these bedding options may seem similar, there are some important distinctions between them.

What is a Duvet Cover?

A duvet cover is a removable cover that goes over a duvet, which is essentially a soft flat bag filled with down or synthetic fibers. In the context of the SHEEX website, comforters are duvets. The cover typically has a button or zipper closure and is used to protect the duvet and add decorative style to the bed. SHEEX offers several different duvet covers across our main collections. Duvets can be easily removed and washed, making them a popular choice for those who like to switch up their bedding frequently.

What is a Comforter?

A comforter, on the other hand, is often a thick, fluffy blanket that is filled with down or a down-alternative. Unlike a duvet cover, a comforter cannot be easily removed from its covering, making it less versatile in terms of washing and style changes. Our comforters are filled with down-alternative and while they provide the warmth you desire in the cooler months; they’re also made with the same cooling fibers as our Original Performance Sheets.

So, which one is better? It really depends on your personal preferences and needs. At SHEEX, we believe both have their place in the entire sleep system.

Duvet Covers for Versatility

Duvet Covers are great for versatility. If you like to change up your bedding frequently or if you tend to get bored with your decor easily, a duvet cover can be a less expensive bedroom makeover. Duvet covers come in a wide variety of colors, making it easy to switch up the look of your bedding without having to buy a whole new comforter. Additionally, since the duvet itself can be removed and washed, you can keep it, as well as your comforter or duvet, clean and fresh.

Comforters for Warmth

Some customers who sleep especially warm choose to sleep with only a duvet cover because they are lighter without a duvet inside. However, if you live in a colder climate or if you tend to get cold easily at night, adding a comforter may be the better choice for you. As stated before, our All Season Comforter will provide more insulation and warmth but is more breathable than traditional comforters. SHEEX Comforters are also machine washable, so if you prefer to use one without a duvet cover, they are also easy to clean!

Ultimately, whether you choose a duvet cover, or a comforter will depend on your individual preferences and needs. At SHEEX we believe both the comforter and cooling duvet cover deserve a spot in the linen closet!
