After careers as stellar athletes and later as successful collegiate basketball coaches, it really comes as no surprise that Susan Walvius and Michelle Marciniak would combine their creative efforts and form SHEEX as their own team.

The duo observed a market of clients who wanted that 24/7 competitive edge to Sleep Better and Play Better and had a great idea. Taped on Wednesday, July 15 from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, Calif., The ESPYS will air on Sunday, July 19 at 9 p.m. ET and once again be hosted by Samuel L. Jackson. They will reward a year's worth of highlights, championships and the best the sports world has to offer at the 17th annual event.
For SHEEX, their inclusion at the event was a natural fit.
"The Tennessee Lady Vol basketball team was named the co-Team of the Decade at the 2000 awards," related Marciniak. "So I'm an ESPY winner with all the players from the 1991, 1996, 1997 and 1998 Lady Vol NCAA Championship teams.
"I've heard all about the swag bags from athletes over the years and thought SHEEX would be a perfect fit for a whole group of people who live an active performance lifestyle."

Why? Scientific data has indicated temperature as a critical component of sleep environment. Research data, recently released following testing conducted at the North Carolina State University Center for Research on Textile Protection and Comfort, has confirmed that SHEEX provide a cooler sleeping environment than cotton. SHEEX performance bedding was tested side-by-side with commercially available cotton bed sheets in a series of procedures designed to measure each product's heat- and moisture-transport properties as well as warm/cool-to-touch thermal transport capabilities.

Here's the SHEEX story:
SHEEX was co-founded in 2007 by former University of South Carolina basketball coaches Susan Walvius and Michelle Marciniak. Both were accomplished collegiate student-athletes...Walvius starred at Virginia Tech and earned acclaim as a scholar-athlete while Marciniak played for the legendary Coach Pat Summitt at the University of Tennessee and led the Lady Vols to the 1996 NCAA title while earning MVP honors in the championship game.
After having run the gamut from outstanding basketball athletes to collegiate coaches, they traded in their clipboards and X's and O's to become entrepreneurs in the bedding industry. Like some other innovators who daydreamed about a great idea one day -- the guys who ironed waffle soles on running shoes and created Nike, or the buddies who built computers in their garage only later to launch Apple or the former football player who wanted to create a superior T-shirt and came up with Under Armour -- Walvius and Marciniak daydreamed about their idea.
As coaches, they were first-hand witnesses to the evolution of performance fabrics in athletic wear and the competitive advantage it offered. Unlike soak-drenched cotton T-shirts and shorts, these new fabrics breathed better, wicked moisture and stretched to move with your body.
Inspired by the feel, breathability, and quick-dry features of this unique material, there was an "aha" moment. From, "I'd love to sleep in this fabric" to a "well, let's do it" declaration, the idea was sparked by Walvius and Marciniak to develop the world's first performance fabric bedding.
What did they know about technologically advanced performance bed sheets and the linen industry? Frankly, not much. After all, they grew up like most of us... sheets were sheets. Usually white and scratchy and years before such terms as Egyptian cotton and 600 thread count became popular.
What they did know was that the transition to the new fabrics enhanced the training performances of athletes. They also knew that we spend about a third of our lives asleep – somewhere over 200,000 hours. The pair reasoned, "Our fabric could fit on your bed like a performance fabric shirt fits on a muscular athlete's body... why wouldn't this same material help to produce an optimum sleep experience?"
After two years of research and development, SHEEX went to market in April 2009 as a new entry formed to create the world's first luxury bed sheets crafted from performance athletic fabrics. In very short order, response to their product has become an industry jolting performer.
